TASTING NOTE
The nose exhibits a heady scent of bright red fruits, super pure and lifted, framed by characteristic floral aromas. The palate is a voluptuous, concentrated compote of raspberry, blackberry and cherry with additional notes of milk chocolate, all pleasingly balanced with some very fine-grained tannins and a crunchy acidity.

the vineyard
Sitting around a thousand metres above sea level in the foothills of the Andes, FINCA JOSEFINA is a small family-owned vineyard in the Pampa el Cepillo region of Mendoza’s Uco Valley, an area that produces some of the finest Malbec in the world.

The vineyard is predominantly comprised of sandy/sandy loam soils and is characterised by the presence of caliche, a cement-like rock formed from calcium carbonate, typical in arid regions such as the Uco Valley. The vineyard surface is scattered with limestone gravel and pebbles of varying sizes.
Pampa el Cepillo is one of the cooler zones of the Uco Valley, being situated at its southern edge, and Malbec thrives here. The combination of altitude and this more southerly latitude mean that el Cepillo records some of the lowest nighttime temperatures of the region, offsetting the high temperatures and intense solar radiation experienced during the day. It is this diurnal temperature swing that helps to create the typical aromatic and flavour profile of Malbec grown in this zone, which is one of freshness and florality. Like most winemaking regions of the world, there are also challenges in growing grapes here, with hail storms being a significant threat. This is why many vineyards in the Uco Valley are protected by special anti-hail netting.

FINCA JOSEFINA's owner, Justin Bache, works with highly experienced local winemaker, Jose Spisso, to create complex and age-worthy Malbecs which reveal the unique attributes of grapes grown at the vineyard's high altitude.
